About the Role
The British Council is seeking Exams Invigilators to support the smooth running of UK qualification assessments in South Africa. These exams include IELTS, IGCSE, A Levels, and professional qualifications such as ACCA.
As an invigilator, you’ll work with our Examinations Services team to ensure all exams are conducted according to set standards, providing a professional and secure test-day experience for candidates.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure exams are delivered securely, efficiently, and in compliance with British Council and exam board regulations.
Monitor candidates closely during exams to prevent malpractice.
Support candidates with queries, directions, and exam procedures, ensuring a positive experience.
Conduct candidate ID checks, manage entry/exit, and handle Test Day Photography where required.
Maintain accurate exam records, reports, and incident logs.
Ensure all materials are securely handled and accounted for.
Follow health & safety, data protection, child safeguarding, and anti-fraud policies.
Attend training and briefing sessions as required.
Requirements
Qualification: Diploma or equivalent (Higher secondary/high school level + Teaching Qualification advantageous).
Experience: Customer service experience, particularly with children, young adults, and parents.
Skills: Good written and spoken English (CEFR B1–B2 or equivalent), strong communication, and vigilance in exam environments.
Other: Willingness to travel if required; professional appearance; able to work flexible hours including weekends.
Desirable:
Awareness of safeguarding and child protection practices.
