Purpose
The main purpose of this General Worker position is to perform cleaning and refuse-related duties across Johannesburg. Workers will support daily operations such as street cleaning, sweeping, refuse stacking, and bin deliveries.
These roles are physically active and require dedication, discipline, and teamwork. Workers will be deployed across different depots and operational areas within the city.
Tasks may include:
Street cleaning and sweeping
Cleaning bins
Delivering refuse bins
Stacking refuse bags
Removing litter
Supporting waste collection teams
Responsibilities:
Successful candidates will be expected to perform a wide range of operational duties including:
Cleaning and Waste Management
Perform street cleaning and sweeping
Clean all refuse bins
Remove litter and maintain clean streets
Clear spillages when refuse bags break
Place filled refuse bags at designated collection points
Bin Delivery and Handling
Collect and deliver new or replacement refuse bins
Check for damaged bins before leaving stores
Record bin serial numbers in delivery registers
Offload bins at delivery locations
Collect damaged bins for replacement
Ensure customers sign delivery receipts
Requirements:
To qualify for the Pikitup General Worker vacancies, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
Grade 10 qualification
At least 12 months cleaning or general work experience
Must be physically and mentally fit
No criminal record
Must be a South African citizen
Must reside within the City of Johannesburg
Provide proof of address
Able to follow instructions and work in teams
