The University of the Witwatersrand invites applications for the role of Senior Administrative Officer in the new Academy for Mathematical Pedagogy, Learning and Innovation for First Year (AMPLIFY).

This academy coordinates first-year Mathematics and Applied Mathematics courses with thousands of students.

The successful candidate will oversee and ensure smooth, efficient, and quality-assured administration across all AMPLIFY operations.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee administration for all first-year Mathematics and Applied Mathematics courses.

Develop, maintain, and quality-assure workflows and document management processes.

Train and supervise administrative staff, ensuring adherence to AMPLIFY standards.

Act as the main liaison between AMPLIFY, academic staff, and university support services.

Manage AMPLIFY finances, including payments and budget monitoring.

Minimum Requirements

A relevant bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) or equivalent.

At least 5 years’ relevant experience, preferably in higher education.

Strong knowledge of front-office administration, budgeting, and financial reporting.

Understanding of quality assurance principles.

High-level computer literacy (MS Excel, Word, SharePoint, electronic document systems).

Experience with online university systems (procurement, HR, LMS, marks submissions).

Excellent organisational, time management, and workflow design skills.

Strong written and spoken English with attention to accuracy and detail.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage staff effectively.
