Overview

Seriti invites applications from academically strong students for its 2026 bursary programme. The bursary is designed to support students studying mining-related qualifications at recognised South African universities and universities of technology, with the aim of developing future industry professionals.


Approved Fields of Study

Funding is available for the following disciplines:

Electrical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

Environmental Studies

Geology

Mine Surveying

Mining Engineering

Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene Engineering (VOHE)


Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Be a South African citizen

Be registered for a degree or diploma (NQF Level 7) in one of the listed fields

Be entering their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study in 2026

Honours students may apply for Geology and Environmental Studies only

Be registered at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution

Maintain a minimum academic average of 60%

Applicants should also demonstrate a basic understanding of mining legislation, including the Mine Health and Safety Act.


Bursary Benefits

Successful candidates will receive financial support that includes:

Payment of tuition fees for 2026 (excluding failed or outstanding modules)

Accommodation and meals

Monthly living allowance

Book allowance

Once-off laptop allowance


Conditions of the Bursary

Final approval depends on confirmed 2026 registration and 2025 academic performance

Beneficiaries may be required to complete vacation work and a work-back period after graduation

Preference will be given to applicants from Seriti’s local communities

Students already receiving funding from another bursary or sponsorship are not eligible

Only full-time students may apply

First-year, foundation, and bridging programme students are excluded
