ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Capitec External Bursary Programme is a funding opportunity for the 2027 academic year.

The programme supports students pursuing qualifications that are important to the future of banking, technology, data, and financial services.

Successful applicants will receive financial support while also gaining exposure to workplace readiness initiatives that help prepare them for future careers.

The bursary is renewable annually, depending on academic performance, student engagement, and available sponsor budgets. Funding is not automatically guaranteed for the entire duration of your studies.

Recipients will also be required to fulfil a work-back obligation for every year of funding received.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be studying full-time in 2027
  • Must be registered at a DHET/CHE registered tertiary institution
  • Must be a 2026 matric student or on a gap year after completing matric in 2025
  • Must be registered for an NQF Level 7 qualification or higher (Bachelor’s Degree or Honours)
  • Must have achieved a Bachelor’s Pass in Grade 12
  • Must have a minimum academic average of 65%
  • Must be a first, second, or final-year student

This bursary is NOT open to:

  • N4, N5 or N6 students
  • Higher Certificate students
  • Diploma students
  • Advanced Diploma students
  • Master’s students
  • Doctoral students
  • TVET College students
  • Community College students
  • Graduate or Business School students
  • Distance learning students (including UNISA)

15. HOW TO APPLY

  1. Prepare all required supporting documents.
  2. Ensure all certified documents are less than three months old.
  3. Complete the online application form carefully.
  4. Upload all required documents.
  5. Ensure all information provided is accurate.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Failure to disclose employment or providing false information may result in termination of the bursary and repayment of funds.
  • Successful applicants will be required to sign a bursary agreement.
  • Shortlisting, interviews, screening, and psychometric assessments may form part of the selection process.
  • Employment Equity objectives will be considered.
  • Applicants who do not receive feedback within three months after the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful.
