Purpose of the Job
The Western Cape Department of Social Development is recruiting qualified individuals to provide routine care, support, and developmental guidance to residents (children, youth, adults, or service users) who need help or are in conflict with the law.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 (Senior Certificate or equivalent)
Grade 1: No experience required
Grade 2: At least 10 years of relevant Child and Youth Care experience after qualifying
A valid Code B (or higher) driver’s licence

Key Responsibilities
Receive and welcome children and youth admitted to the facility.
Engage with residents and conduct assessments.
Create and implement action and development plans.
Run developmental and recreational programmes and monitor their progress.
Refer residents to professional services when needed (e.g., keeping logs and reports).
Encourage participation in sports, arts, culture, and recreational activities.
Participate in ongoing professional development.
Handle administrative and clerical tasks as required.
Skills and Competencies
Knowledge of developmental programmes and care centre procedures
Strong planning, organising, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage conflict effectively
Professional and respectful conduct when interacting with clients
Good communication skills (verbal and written)
Computer literacy
Ability to work with children who are in conflict with the law
Salary
Grade 1: R184 320 – R206 802 per year
Grade 2: R215 181 – R243 750 per year (OSD)
Note: CTE packages include basic salary and all benefits such as medical aid, pension, housing, and 13th cheque.
