Job Purpose
The Driver will provide reliable driving and administrative support to the Cluster office, primarily assisting with the smooth onboarding of the new Head of Delegation. The role will also offer operational support as required, under the supervision of the Senior Protocol and Logistics Officer.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Safely operate IFRC fleet vehicles to transport passengers and goods as instructed
Ensure all vehicle occupants comply with safety belt regulations
Maintain assigned vehicles by ensuring cleanliness, refuelling, and roadworthiness
Safeguard all vehicles, equipment, and accessories at all times
Accurately complete vehicle logbooks and maintain records of fuel usage, repairs, spare keys, and equipment
Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report any issues to the supervisor
Adhere strictly to traffic laws and road safety regulations
Perform minor mechanical repairs, including tyre changes, oil checks, and battery replacements
Notify the supervisor of required vehicle maintenance and servicing
Conduct pre- and post-repair inspections
Track monthly servicing and repairs and prepare related reports
Carry out additional technical or operational duties as assigned
Education and Certification
Secondary school education (tertiary qualification will be an advantage)
Valid South African driver’s licence
Valid Public Driver’s Permit (PDP)
Valid certificate of good conduct
Experience
At least 5 years’ experience in a similar driving role
Previous experience working with international organisations, NGOs, or embassies is highly advantageous
Knowledge, Skills and Languages
Strong computer literacy
Basic mechanical knowledge (first aid or security training is an added advantage)
Good understanding of Red Cross and Red Crescent operations
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and prioritise tasks effectively
High sensitivity to diversity and cultural awareness
Strong attention to detail
Fluent spoken and written English
