Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
  • A valid Code EC1 driver’s licence
  • Ability to pass the Rand Water K53 driving test
  • At least 2 years’ experience driving a heavy vehicle
  • A valid Public Drivers Permit (PDP)
  • Previous experience operating a heavy passenger vehicle will be an added advantage.

Primary Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Balancing goods correctly before transportation
  • Checking that the vehicle is roadworthy
  • Ensuring vehicles are not overloaded
  • Checking that loads are secure and properly balanced
  • Checking the correct operation of tie-down and lifting equipment
  • Reporting vehicle defects and keeping the vehicle clean
  • Assisting with tree felling
  • Operating cranes and slings
  • Relieving other drivers in EMS and assisting with other driving duties
  • Completing the vehicle log book
  • Checking documentation against the load
  • Ensuring the welfare and safety of the crew
  • Taking responsibility for the vehicle and load while on the road
  • Dumping materials at legal sites
  • Ensuring compliance of equipment
