KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
– Ensure that the overhead travelling crane is in good working condition.
– Ensure that all lifting equipment and slings are in good condition.
– Visually check pipe and tube ends to ensure there are no burrs and that labels are securely attached to each bundle being offloaded from the storage conveyor.
– Ensure sufficient trailers are available and parked close to the storage conveyor to minimise crane travel.
– Ensure straps on bundles are secure.
– Ensure timely offloading from the storage conveyor so the bundle process does not stop.
– If there is a crane breakdown, arrange for a forklift to remove bundles and load them onto trailers to prevent the mill from stopping.
– Ensure full trailers are removed and replaced with empty trailers by the DC.
– Complete crane and lifting equipment log books daily.
– Assist the bundling operator with setting up the bundling process during changeovers.
– Assist the bundling operator with good housekeeping.
– Work safely at all times by stopping, thinking, planning and doing.
– Keep the remote control in good working order and ensure batteries are changed in a timely manner.
– Operate the siren when transporting bundles and loads to make people aware of the load.
– Handle all bundles with care to prevent damage during transportation, especially against trailer uprights.
– Assist the Tube Maker with mill changeovers.
