KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
General Facilities Maintenance
The Maintenance Assistant will conduct routine inspections across allocated company facilities to identify maintenance requirements and potential hazards.
Duties include repairing desks, chairs, doors, shelving, fixtures and other office infrastructure. The successful candidate will also help keep work areas clean, safe, functional and presentable.
Maintenance requests must be attended to within agreed service levels, with feedback provided on completed or outstanding work.
Electrical, Plumbing and Building Repairs
The role includes performing basic electrical maintenance, such as replacing lamps, tubes, plug points and minor components within approved safety limits.
Electrical faults that require work by a suitably qualified or certified electrician must be identified and escalated appropriately.
The Maintenance Assistant will also perform basic plumbing repairs involving leaks, blocked drains, taps, toilets and washbasins.
Other duties include touch-up painting, patching and minor wall repairs, while major defects must be reported to management or the relevant service provider.
Assets, Furniture and Relocations
The successful candidate will inspect company furniture and equipment and carry out minor repairs where required.
The role also involves assisting with the internal and external movement of furniture, equipment and other company assets.
Items must be properly protected, secured and handled to prevent damage. The Maintenance Assistant may also assist with office setups, office reconfigurations, events and training requirements.
Tools, Materials and Inventory
The Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for keeping maintenance tools and equipment clean, safe and serviceable.
Tools must be inspected regularly for wear or damage, with repair or replacement requirements reported when necessary.
The successful candidate will also help maintain adequate stocks of maintenance consumables and report shortages on time.
Accurate records must be maintained for tools issued, returned, repaired or replaced, while authorised sign-out procedures must be followed.
Health and Safety
All maintenance work must be performed in accordance with company health and safety requirements and applicable procedures.
The successful candidate must use appropriate PPE and follow safe working practices at all times.
Any hazards, damaged infrastructure, incidents or work outside the authorised scope of the position must be reported immediately.
The Maintenance Assistant may also be required to assist with emergency maintenance situations and safety inspections.
