Job Description
RCL FOODS is looking for a Route Controller to join the Baking Division based at the Vaal Depot, reporting to the Depot Controller. The ideal candidate will oversee dispatch operations, driver and sales performance, crate stock, and driver balances. The role also supports the sales team with backend operations to optimize routes, improve efficiency, and drive customer satisfaction.
Minimum Requirements
Matric (Grade 12)
A Diploma/Degree in Logistics, Sales, or Management (advantageous)
Valid Driver’s License
Experience with SYSPRO (advantageous)
3–5 years’ experience in a food manufacturing environment
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Target-driven and computer literate
Able to work under pressure and take initiative
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact across all levels
Key Responsibilities
Route & Customer Management
Address daily operational needs and ensure customer satisfaction.
Support Sales Representatives with route optimization and rationalization.
Serve as a link between dispatch, sales, and drivers to ensure smooth operations.
Provide market insights and feedback to improve customer service.
Optimize product distribution for efficiency and cost savings.
Route Optimization & Performance
Ensure driver teams follow planned and optimized routes.
Maintain accurate route mapping using VeZa or other systems.
Track and improve truck utilization and delivery efficiency.
Balance orders placed, delivered, and returned daily.
Returns & Stock Control
Monitor daily returns and develop plans to reduce them.
Track driver and crate shortages, implementing corrective actions.
Submit daily sales figures from drivers.
Sales Support & Customer Data
Ensure all customer details are accurately captured and maintained.
Support driver teams in achieving sales targets and customer satisfaction goals.
Conduct quarterly route rides to assess delivery efficiency and service levels.
Driver Leadership
Train, mentor, and manage driver and van assistant teams.
Ensure timely dispatches with correct invoicing.
Implement driver performance scorecards, including customer ratings and delivery times.
Pricing & Market Monitoring
Conduct regular (weekly) trade price surveys.
Monitor retail selling prices (RSPs) and ensure compliance with pricing strategy and policy.
