Job Title: Senior Flavourist


Location: Midrand, Gauteng, South Africa (1683)


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Cross-functional Collaboration:

Support the R&D Manager in strategic decision-making and represent them in various forums.

Lead proactive initiatives to secure product and process continuity.

Oversee daily operations across Sensory, PPI, and Packaging teams within R&D.

Product & Project Management:

Lead projects from idea to product launch, coordinating with relevant teams (e.g., sensory, regulatory, commercial, QA, etc.).

Track project progress and updates using internal tools.

Customer Engagement:

Collaborate with customers to provide technical solutions and support product rollouts at their sites.

Share expertise to strengthen customer relationships and support business growth.

Administrative Tasks:

Record formulation data in SAP RD for traceability and costing.

Provide inputs for pricing and compile essential product documentation (HACCP, ingredient lists, nutritional info).

Sensory Evaluation:

Participate in sensory tests to understand product attributes.

Organize evaluations to refine new products as needed.

Cross-functional Support:

Offer technical support to Supply Chain and QA teams.

Assist with trials and first production runs alongside PPI.

Work with Consumer Insights and Sensory teams to align product development with market trends and testing protocols.

External Collaboration:

Stay updated on industry trends by attending workshops and seminars.

Engage with suppliers to incorporate new technologies and ingredients.

Resource Management & Compliance:

Manage team resources effectively.

Uphold standards in administration, safety, and workplace hygiene.

Support ingredient sourcing through technical evaluations.


Candidate Requirements

Diploma/B-Tech in Food Technology or Biotechnology, or a BSc in Food Science or similar.

Experience in product development, ideally in the FMCG sector.

Strong team player with cross-functional collaboration skills.

Self-driven, accountable, and able to manage multiple priorities.

Adaptable to change, with excellent communication and presentation abilities.

Curious, detail-oriented, and customer-focused.
