Role Purpose

The Junior Underwriter is responsible for assessing and evaluating insurance applications to determine risk eligibility and appropriate coverage. The role involves reviewing Declarations of Health or medical reports for members exceeding free cover limits, liaising with brokers and applicants, and ensuring all underwriting decisions are made accurately and fairly.


Key Responsibilities

Assess risk for insurance covers exceeding free cover limits using Declarations of Health and standard medical assessments.

Communicate with members, brokers, and medical professionals to obtain or clarify required information.

Provide clear explanations for underwriting decisions to members and their doctors.

Coordinate with reinsurers for cases that exceed treaty limits.

Maintain accurate records and uphold service standards in all underwriting processes.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum: Grade 12 (Matric).

Preferred: Industry-related qualification or Business Degree/Diploma.

Must be competent in the allocation of underwriting medicals.

Familiarity with insurance products and risk management is advantageous.
