AFGRI Equipment is inviting motivated candidates to apply for 40 Apprenticeship opportunities across South Africa. Successful applicants will receive practical workplace training while working toward a qualification as a Tractor Mechanic or Earthmoving Mechanic.
The programme is designed for candidates who want to build a career in agricultural equipment, construction machinery, forestry equipment, and related mechanical fields.

About the Apprenticeship
The apprenticeship runs for 3 years and provides in-service training toward becoming a qualified Tractor Mechanic or Earthmoving Mechanic.
The first 6 months are treated as a probation period, allowing both the company and apprentice to assess whether the arrangement is suitable for a longer-term relationship.
After successful completion of probation, apprentices enter into an AFGRI contract and begin formal training.
Training Structure
Depending on the apprentice’s requirements and available training, the programme may include:
- Practical training at an appropriate training institute
- Distance-learning college subjects
- Saturday classes
- Continued distance learning during workplace training
- Product training from suppliers and AFGRI specialists
- Internal training conducted by AFGRI specialists
AFGRI supports training through AgriSETA or MerSETA, with both the apprentice and company contracted to the applicable SETA.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A valid driver’s licence
- Good communication skills
- Administrative skills
- Computer literacy
- Grade 12/Matric
Grade 12 applicants must have passed:
- English
- Mathematics or Technical Mathematics
(Mathematical Literacy is not accepted)
The following subjects are advantageous but not compulsory:
- Engineering/Technical or Physical Science
- Engineering Graphics & Design
- Diesel Trade Theory
- Motor Trade Theory

Training Costs & Contract
Training is provided free of charge if successfully passed. However, failed subjects or training phases must be repeated at the apprentice’s own cost and time.
The apprenticeship is subject to a 3-year contract. If an apprentice withdraws during the apprenticeship or required work-back period, repayment of training costs may apply.
The work-back period is equivalent to the time taken to qualify, calculated in years. The overall apprenticeship contract cannot exceed 4 years. If the apprentice has not qualified within four years, the contract expires.

The company also operates internationally in Botswana, Kenya, Uganda and Western Australia.
Assessment & Selection
Applicants must make themselves available for the company’s interview and assessment process.
Candidates are also required to complete the screening and assessment questions using their own knowledge. The assessment may take at least 30 minutes, so applicants should allow enough time to complete it properly.
