Overview
BME, in partnership with Valterra Platinum Mine (Mogalakwena), is offering a community skills development programme for unemployed or out-of-school youth from the Mogalakwena Municipality. This initiative aims to uplift local communities by providing training and practical experience in blasting operations.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
Matric with English, Mathematics, and Physical Science (minimum 40% in each subject)

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct risk assessments and complete safe work declarations with the Blaster before entering any work area, according to client standards.
Support the Blaster in preparing the blast or charge-up site, ensuring all legal, client, and BME rules are followed.
Assist the Blaster in inspecting the blasting area and planning the blast.
Set up barricades around the designated working area as per client guidelines.
Map drilling holes to confirm correct placement.
Measure hole depths and check that each hole meets required standards.
Report and help resolve any deviations by communicating with mine personnel, drill contractors, or supervisors.
Collect the necessary explosives accessories as instructed by the Blaster.
Place detonators and boosters at hole collars in preparation for priming.
Prime blast holes by inserting detonators into boosters, adding weigh-down material, and lowering them into holes under the Blaster’s supervision.
