Boma Assistant (x3)

Location: Kruger National Park
Paterson Grade: B1

South African National Parks (SANParks) is looking to appoint three Boma Assistants within the Veterinary Wildlife Services division in Skukuza. The successful candidates will report to the Boma Supervisor.


Requirements

1–2 years’ experience in wildlife capture or caring for wildlife in holding/boma facilities.

Grade 12 (Matric).

A National Diploma in Nature Conservation or Wildlife Management is beneficial.

Knowledge of standard wildlife handling procedures and animal welfare guidelines.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and after-hours.

Basic understanding of Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) requirements.

Physically fit andhealthy.

Experience in maintenance tasks (bricklaying, plastering, welding, carpentry, plumbing) is advantageous.

Experience operating a brush cutter, chainsaw, or tractor will be an advantage.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

A Code B or C1 driver’s licence is an added advantage.


Key Responsibilities

Ensure animals in holding facilities receive the correct fodder and water on time.

Maintain hygiene standards in the facility, including cleaning and waste removal.

Monitor animals and fodder stock and report any concerns.

Assist with wildlife handling during translocation, sales, and research activities.

Assist with receiving, offloading, and storing fodder deliveries.

Support day-to-day boma operations.

Keep buildings, stores, and structures clean.

Perform maintenance duties, such as vegetation clearing, fence repairs, herbicide application, and fixing enclosure structures.

Report faulty equipment or safety issues to supervisors.

Keep animal checklists updated for monitoring purposes.

Follow all OHS standard procedures.
