Job Overview
The Technical Assistant will be responsible for ensuring that all manufacturing equipment is properly maintained and serviced according to engineering standards and manufacturer specifications. The role requires strong mechanical knowledge, including experience with conveyor belts, wire meshes, modular belts, bearings, and various mechanical tools. You will also be involved in assembling and dismantling machinery as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 / Matric
N3 Qualification or NCV Technical Qualification
2–5 years’ experience working with production line machinery as an operator
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Repair equipment failures to restore full functionality.
Perform preventative maintenance to ensure machines operate at optimal levels.
Conduct root cause analysis to prevent recurring faults.
Complete job cards accurately and on time.
Inspect machinery daily and report any defects.
Strip production machinery for cleaning, sanitising, and greasing (including during night shift if required).
Assist with production line start-ups, including Sunday night preparations.
Ensure all equipment is safely secured before starting work and verify that safety devices are functional.
Identify parts that need replacement and recommend additional maintenance work.
Support the production team with machine start-ups and set-ups each morning.
Plan and organise scheduled maintenance for plant machinery.
Protect electrical components during cleaning processes.
Follow Health and Safety regulations, relevant laws, and company policies while performing repairs.
Check oil levels and adhere to lubrication schedules.
Comply with Quality and Food Safety requirements.
Support and improve the implementation of Food Safety systems as outlined in the Food Safety RACI Matrix and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
