Purpose of the Position
To provide general maintenance and operational support at DWS sites, including dams, canals, and infrastructure facilities. The role ensures cleanliness, upkeep, and safe working conditions within operational areas to support the Department’s water infrastructure and maintenance programmes.
Requirements
Education: Basic literacy and numeracy (ABET Certificate or Grade 10 equivalent)
Experience: No prior experience required — on-the-job training will be provided
Driver’s Licence: Added advantage
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
Basic understanding of cleaning, gardening, and maintenance procedures
Ability to use hand tools and maintenance equipment
Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) practices
Good communication and teamwork skills
Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labor duties
Punctuality, reliability, and attention to detail
Ability to follow supervisory instructions and work outdoors under varying conditions
Responsibilities
Perform general cleaning duties in and around work areas, buildings, and water infrastructure.
Assist in minor repairs, maintenance, and construction activities.
Maintain grounds and gardens, including mowing, pruning, and clearing debris.
Load, offload, and move materials and equipment as directed.
Clean, maintain, and store tools and machinery safely after use.
