About the Role
Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Johannesburg Melrose Arch is looking for a Handyman to join their Engineering team.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance and repair duties to ensure that all facilities, equipment, and systems operate smoothly.
This position requires a hands-on, detail-oriented individual who takes pride in providing exceptional service to guests and maintaining the hotel’s high standards.
Key Responsibilities
Respond promptly to guest repair requests and maintenance calls.
Perform preventive maintenance on tools, equipment, and systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.).
Inspect and repair tools, machinery, and building structures.
Handle minor repairs such as painting, drywall touch-ups, light bulb replacement, and fixture repairs.
Unclog drains, fix toilets, and replace electrical outlets or switches.
Maintain maintenance inventory and request parts or supplies when needed.
Ensure all maintenance work follows safety and security procedures (Lockout/Tagout, proper material handling, etc.).
Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas.
Record daily maintenance activities and communicate with other shifts to ensure continuity.
Assist with landscaping, including minor repairs to irrigation systems.
Use basic computer skills to manage maintenance records and adjust system settings.
Minimum Requirements
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience:
Some experience in general maintenance, painting, or surface repair.
Experience in hotel maintenance or engineering is an advantage.
License: Valid Driver’s Licence required.

Physically fit – able to move, lift, or carry objects up to 50 lbs (with or without assistance).
