Job Summary
Feltex is looking for a Maintenance Assistant to support the maintenance team with both preventative and corrective maintenance on plant equipment. The role includes assisting with inspections, performing basic mechanical repairs, maintaining tools and equipment, and ensuring all maintenance work is conducted safely and efficiently in line with company standards. The Maintenance Assistant will report directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
At least 2 years’ experience in a Manufacturing or Automotive environment.
A technical or mechanical qualification will be an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
Process Control:
Transport tools, equipment, and spare parts to work areas.
Isolate equipment and perform lockouts to ensure a safe workspace.
Mechanical Maintenance:
Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance tasks.
Align and adjust machines and equipment.
Operate drilling and surface grinding machines to produce basic components.
Perform basic MIG/TIG welding and other metal joining techniques.
Grind tools and drill bits when required.
Fabrication:
Shape and form sheet metal using hand or power tools.
Cut, drill, and punch fabrication materials.
Use oxy-fuel gas cutting and resistance welding processes.
Perform welding using oxy-acetylene, arc, and gas methods.
Remove metals using oxy-fuel and air-carbon arc gouging.
Material Handling:
Sling loads and operate cranes, hoists, and forklifts safely.
General Duties:
Perform scheduled maintenance and production checks.
Assist in preventative maintenance and mould changes as needed.
Maintain 5S housekeeping standards in the work area.
Complete maintenance repairs and ensure all job cards and PM checks are closed on time.
Support continuous improvement initiatives.
Participate in Gemba walks and complete assigned action items.
