Job Title: OHS Inspector – Occupational Health & Hygiene

Salary: R397,116 per annum


Location: Labour Centre, Mthatha


Minimum Requirements:

Grade 12 and a three-year qualification (NQF Level 6) in Occupational Hygiene or Environmental Health (SAQA recognized).

A valid driver’s license.

Professional registration with a recognized body is advantageous but not required.

Knowledge and Skills:

Strong understanding of OHS Act, departmental policies, relevant legislation (e.g. COIDA, UIA), and SANS Codes.

Skilled in planning, problem-solving, conflict resolution, communication (verbal and written), computer use, negotiation, interviewing, and delivering presentations.


Key Duties:

Conduct independent workplace inspections to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (No. 85 of 1993) and associated regulations.

Verify employer registration with the Compensation Fund and Unemployment Insurance Fund.

Investigate reported OHS-related incidents and complaints, take enforcement actions where necessary, and testify in court when required.

Perform scheduled proactive inspections, compile reports, and assess compliance with labour laws.

Organize and deliver educational campaigns on labour legislation, assess impact, and report findings.

Support regional planning, draft reports, and analyze inspection data for statistical reporting.
