About the Role
Grain Field Chickens, part of VKB Agriculture, is a leading player in the broiler industry with a modern abattoir in Reitz. This position offers the opportunity to grow within a structured, professional agricultural environment.
As a Poultry Meat Examiner, you will be responsible for inspecting carcasses on the processing line to ensure compliance with the Meat Safety Act and company quality standards.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
Valid and approved Poultry Meat Examiner (PME) Certificate
Previous PME experience is an advantage
Mathematics or Math Literacy preferred
Strong mathematical ability — testing will be conducted
Able to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
Clear criminal record
Willing to work shifts, overtime, weekends, and public holidays
Key Responsibilities
Ensure all products meet the Meat Safety Act requirements — no non-compliant carcasses may pass inspection
Prevent unnecessary product losses
Remove or partially condemn carcasses based on damage classification
Ensure correct recovery of portions at the recovery station
Maintain strict health and safety compliance (GFC Standards & Meat Safety Act)
Report all quality variances to the department head
Work effectively with internal departments to maintain quality standards
Successfully complete all required training
Maintain accuracy and a high level of attention to detail
