Job Type: Permanent.

Job Purpose

To effectively design, develop, deliver, and evaluate technical and behavioural training programmes for SAAT and third-party clients, ensuring compliance with national and international aviation training standards.


Key Responsibilities

1. Training Design & Development

Identify training needs through needs and task analyses with SAA Technical and external customers.

Determine performance standards and training requirements with clients.

Stay informed through research, new technologies, and subject-matter expertise to choose the most suitable training methods.

Plan and design training programmes, including objectives, course content, and assessment methods.

Develop training materials, curriculum guides, and presentation plans.

Create learning resources using written and digital media.

Update training curricula to align with new technology and training legislation (SDA, SAQA, EASA, FAR, CAA).

Keep updated with the latest aircraft systems and technologies.


2. Administration

Manage all training administration and maintain accurate training records.

Organise training venues, materials, equipment, and tools.

Ensure all equipment is functional, serviced, and calibrated according to legislation.

Procure materials for practical tasks through AMOS processes.

Prepare administrative documents such as attendance registers, timecards, leave forms, and discipline records.

Arrange travel concessions and provide monthly training reports.


3. Delivery of Training

Facilitate training using CBMT and other adult-learning methodologies.

Apply Outcome-Based Education and Training (OBET) principles.

Conduct field trips and practical demonstrations.

Teach using various tools (projectors, charts, samples, IT equipment, videos, handouts, etc.).

Incorporate cognitive and life-skills development into training sessions.


4. On-the-Job Training (OJT)

Work with management to implement OJT programmes.

Design, develop, and update OJT content based on customer needs.

Ensure the transfer of theoretical knowledge into practical production environments.

Guide and coach learners individually and in groups.


5. Assessments & Evaluation

Confirm candidates’ readiness for assessments.

Evaluate courses, learner feedback, and customer feedback.

Assess learner competence (knowledge, skills, and attitude).

Develop exam papers, self-tests, practical assessments, evidence guides, and checklists.

Maintain confidentiality of all assessment materials.

Ensure availability of tools and equipment required for assessments.

Comply with SDA requirements and other national/international training authorities.

Capture assessment results, handle disputes or appeals, and provide feedback.

Conduct bridging training, trade testing (ARPL), and proficiency tests as an accredited provider.

Assess candidates in Maintenance Type Training (theory and practical, including EASA & OJT).

Assist learners with problem-solving and fault-finding tasks.


6. General & Auxiliary Training Duties

Contribute to national training legislation and unit-standard development.

Provide bridging training for new employees.

Deliver cadet pilot training.

Conduct maintenance training and certify release to service on Harvard aircraft (if qualified).

Develop and deliver specialised training programmes.

Attend development programmes locally and internationally.

Support secondary, part-certification, and full-shop certification training.

Assist with HR inductions, SHE processes, and staff retraining needs.

Support aircraft recovery operations.

Provide refresher, recurrent, and certification training.

Assist with employee wellbeing and learner management.

Prepare staff for certification and support overall training operations.


7. General Duties

Take part in recruitment and selection of learners and technicians.

Act as a subject-matter expert during interviews.

Participate in meetings, projects, and decision-making processes.

Provide first aid when needed.

Help monitor budgets and justify procurement of new equipment.

Ensure efficient use, recycling, and replacement of materials.

Optimise training schedules and capacity.


Qualifications & Experience

Grade 12 or equivalent

Qualified Aviation Technician (Mechanical)

Minimum 5 years post-apprenticeship aviation experience

Part certification or equivalent

Code B driver’s licence

Advantageous:

Harvard aircraft type licence

Harvard maintenance experience

Train-the-Trainer certificate

Accredited Assessor Level 5 & 6 (SDA & SETA)


Knowledge & Skills

Strong understanding of SAQA, SDA, TETA, CAR, SAT MOP, and other aviation regulatory bodies
